Sindhudurg, Maharashtra – A 50-year-old woman was found tied to a tree with chains in a forest in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg District on Saturday evening. The disturbing scene was discovered by a shepherd in Sonurli village who heard her cries for help and immediately informed the police.
On Saturday evening, a shepherd in Sonurli village stumbled upon a horrifying sight: a 50-year-old woman, identified as Lalita Kayi, chained to a tree in a forest in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg District. The woman, who had a photocopy of her US passport and an Aadhaar card with a Tamil Nadu address in her possession, was found in a state of distress.

Upon being alerted, police officials rushed to the scene and immediately transported the woman to a nearby hospital in Sindhudurg. Due to her severe mental and physical condition, she was later transferred to Goa Medical College for advanced treatment. Doctors confirmed that she suffers from psychiatric problems and that medical prescriptions were found with her.

“The woman was initially taken to a hospital in Sawantwadi and then to Oros in Sindhudurg before being transferred to Goa Medical College. She is now out of danger. Medical reports indicate that she suffers from psychiatric issues,” a police official stated.

The discovery of her Aadhaar card and a photocopy of her US passport has prompted police to verify her identity and nationality. “Her visa has expired, and we are working with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office to confirm her nationality,” the official added.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Lalita Kayi has been in India for the past 10 years. The police have dispatched teams to Tamil Nadu and other locations to trace her relatives and gather more information about her circumstances.

Pictures and videos of the woman tied to the tree have gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the case. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in reuniting her with her family.

The incident highlights the need for increased awareness and support for individuals with mental health issues, especially those who may be isolated or without support networks.
