INS Shivalik Embarks on RIMPAC-24: World’s Largest Naval Exercise
Indian multi-role stealth frigate INS Shivalik, deployed in the South China Sea and North Pacific Ocean, has reached Pearl Harbour in Hawaii to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the world’s largest naval exercise.
The harbour phase of RIMPAC-24 includes various symposiums, exercise planning discussions, sports competitions, and reciprocal deck visits. These activities are designed to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation among the participating navies.
During the sea phase, RIMPAC-24 will be divided into three sub-phases. Ships will engage in basic and advanced level integration exercises, culminating in a theatre-level large force tactical exercise. This phase is set to demonstrate high-level strategic coordination and naval proficiency.
RIMPAC-24 will feature an Aircraft Carrier Battle Group, submarines, maritime reconnaissance aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, remotely piloted surface ships, and amphibious force landing operations. Joint operations with special forces from multinational navies will further enhance the exercise’s complexity and scope.
Over six weeks of intense operations and training, RIMPAC-24 aims to boost interoperability and build trust among navies of friendly nations. Led by the US Navy, approximately 29 countries are participating in this year’s edition.
RIMPAC-24 offers a unique training opportunity and fosters cooperative relationships among participants, essential for the safety of sea lanes and the security of global oceans
