Ola has made a significant transition by moving from Google Maps to its own Ola Maps service, as announced on July 5. This comes shortly after the company’s exit from Microsoft’s Azure platform. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal highlighted the financial benefits of this move on Twitter.
“After Azure exit last month, we’ve now fully exited Google Maps. We used to spend ₹100 crore a year, but we’ve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our in-house Ola Maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed 😉,” Bhavish Aggarwal tweeted.
In another innovative stride, Ola Electric plans to introduce solid-state batteries for its electric scooters by next year. Bhavish Aggarwal revealed that the company will start commercial production of these batteries at its gigafactory in Southern Tamil Nadu.
This gigafactory, managed by an Ola Electric subsidiary, has been chosen for India’s battery manufacturing incentive scheme, promoting local production and reducing dependency on imports.
Solid-state batteries provide enhanced safety, longer lifespan, and faster charging compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries.
