Traveling to Uttarakhand by car? You must carry a dustbin or garbage bag with you. In a bid to maintain cleanliness and protect its natural beauty, the Uttarakhand government has mandated that all vehicles entering the state must carry dustbins or garbage bags. This new rule is part of a broader initiative to address the ongoing issue of garbage disposal, especially along the Char Dham route and near popular tourist destinations like Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Nainital.

To ensure compliance, the state transport department will conduct inspections at all entry points. Vehicle owners will be required to present a valid RC, insurance paper, fitness certificate, pollution certificate, and valid permits when issuing trip cards online or at state entry points. This measure aims to foster better waste management practices and ensure a cleaner environment for residents and visitors alike.

Despite efforts by NGOs and social organizations, littering has remained a significant problem in Uttarakhand. Heaps of garbage are frequently seen in key areas, prompting the government to implement stricter regulations. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi stressed the importance of tourists, tour operators, travel agencies, and drivers in maintaining the state’s cleanliness.

Letters have been sent to the transport commissioners of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, urging them to enforce this new rule for vehicles entering Uttarakhand.

This regulation is more than just a compliance requirement; it is a call to action for everyone to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable environment. Authorities believe these steps will help reduce roadside littering and preserve the scenic beauty of Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand’s new rule is a significant step towards preserving the environment and enhancing the travel experience. By complying with this regulation, travelers can play an essential role in keeping the state clean and beautiful for generations to come.
